WELCOME TO THE SOUTH BAY CATALINA YACHT CLUB

The South Bay Catalina Yacht Club or SBCYC has been in existence since 1984. We are a club dedicated to our Catalina sail boats, but mostly we are dedicated to sailing and enjoying the experience with other people with the same passion.

SBCYC is a casual and friendly organization. We have members of all ages and sailing abilities. The club offers an opportunity to exchange information and ideas with other people that own Catalinas.

Our emphasis is Good Boats, and Good Times with Good Friends. Membership in the South Bay Cataina Yacht Club is open to all owners of Catalina , Capri, and Morgan sailboats and their Crew. This is an all volunteer non-profit organization. Dues are $100.00 annually.

We sail on the Great South Bay on the south shore of Long Island. We are a small club. Membership is now at about 26 boats. The boats currently in the club range from 22ft to 39ft.

The club's main activities focus around sailing and socializing. This includes cruising in the form of weekend raft ups at various marinas and anchorages on the bay. There is also a fairly extensive racing schedule consisting of a Spring, Summer, and Fall series. The racing is friendly and intimate with 4-7 boats racing on Monday evenings. The racing season ends with a Cup series and the winner is presented at the Installation Dinner with the Cup. We also host special racing events for the non racer where having fun is stressed over winning.

In addition to the racing and raft-ups we have deep water cruises. Every year a different location is chosen and one boat plans and organizes the entire trip.

The club hosts many social events during the entire year. There is the Commodore's Party and Barbecue, Hulliday Party, and Installation Dinner Dance to name a few. We plan social events on land in the off season.

The club has monthly meetings where in addition to discussing club business, there will be guest speakers who provide information about our boats and sailing in general or topics of interest to boaters.

Recently we became an "All Boat Association" in Mainsheet. Mainsheet is a magazine/website for the National Catalina Association. Visit their site at http://www.mainsheet.com.

We welcome new members. Those interested in joining the South Bay Catalina Yacht Club can contact our Vice Commodore who is in charge of membership.
